Caring for Wood Bead and Macrame Chandeliers

Wood, cotton and jute are natural materials, and they reward gentle care. A few habits keep a handmade chandelier looking the way it did on the day it arrived.

Dust regularly, gently

Switch the light off and let it cool. Dust with a soft, dry brush, or use a vacuum on its lowest setting with a soft brush attachment held a little away from the fibers. Work from the top down so dust does not settle on cleaned areas.

Avoid water and chemical cleaners

Wet cloths and household cleaners can stain cotton and jute, raise the grain of wood and dull painted or metal finishes. If a spot needs attention, ask us before trying anything on the fiber.

Mind the room

Kitchens and steamy bathrooms expose natural fibers to grease and moisture, and outdoor use is not recommended unless a product is expressly rated for it. Strong direct sunlight can gradually change the tone of natural fibers and finishes, as it does with most natural materials.

Choose the right bulb

Bulbs are not included. LED bulbs run cool and are kind to natural materials. Do not exceed the maximum wattage shown on the product label or order documentation.

Handle with care when moving

If you need to take the chandelier down, keep the original packaging or crate. Support the frame rather than lifting by the beads or tassels, and have a qualified electrician disconnect and reinstall hardwired fixtures.
